On the morning of November 29, the “2023 Be Internet Awesome Project Review Conference” took place at the Quang Ba Trade Union Hotel in Hanoi. The event celebrated achievements with awards presented to schools, education departments, and provincial Departments of Education and Training (DoET) for their extensive program implementation. Short videos summarizing the project’s journey and expansion in 2023 were also shared.
In its third year of implementation in Vietnam, the Be Internet Awesome project reached a close for 2023, having trained 5,839 teachers across 669 primary schools in two major cities (Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City) on safe and effective internet usage skills. Over 776,000 students benefited from the program.
On the morning of November 29, the Department of Teachers and Educational Managers under the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam, in collaboration with the Center for Family Health and Community Development (CFC), organized the “Be Internet Awesome Project Review Conference” with teachers to summarize the project, recognize participating units, and create a space to share implementation experiences.
A representative from the Department of Teachers and Educational Managers noted that, with the digital transformation of the education sector, developing digital safety skills for both teachers and students is essential, alongside technical infrastructure development. Additionally, child protection online remains a top priority for government agencies, requiring a balanced approach to harnessing technology and the internet’s benefits while preventing harmful content.
Mr. Vu Minh Duc, Director General of the Department of Teachers and Educational Managers, Ministry of Education and Training, delivered the conference’s opening speech.
The teacher training materials based on the “Be Internet Awesome” program were uploaded to the Ministry of Education and Training’s Temis system, with over 123,269 teachers nationwide having completed the course as of November 2023. This enables teachers to guide children on safe internet use, avoiding risky behaviors, and teach core principles of digital safety and digital citizenship, empowering students to explore the online world confidently.
The Department, in cooperation with CFC Vietnam, encouraged implementation at the local level in four DoETs (Hanoi, Vinh Phuc, Yen Bai, Lao Cai). This effort saw 413 schools in four provinces participate, resulting in over 600 submissions for the contest, with 120 exemplary entries receiving awards. Subsequently, the Department collaborated with CFC Vietnam to conduct training for primary school teachers in Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City, as shared by a representative of the Department of Teachers and Educational Managers.
Certificates were awarded to eight educational divisions for effectively implementing the program in schools.

At the closing ceremony, the conference included remarks from Mai Quynh Nhi, Head of Marketing for Vietnam at Google APAC, who represented Google, the supporting organization for the Be Internet Awesome project. Ms. Nhi expressed appreciation to the Department of Teachers and Educational Managers, Ministry of Education and Training, for enabling the dissemination of digital safety materials to teachers. This initiative equips students with essential principles and knowledge for safe and confident internet use.

To achieve these positive outcomes in 2023, CFC Vietnam extends its deepest gratitude to the four DoETs that partnered to expand and promote the program. Ms. Nguyen Hoang Anh, Director of CFC Vietnam, presented commemorative plaques to representatives of the four DoETs.
