Clean water is one of the main factors that ensures life and development on the Earth. For children, clean water determines the overall development of children. Along with population growth, the demand for water is higher due to the industrialization and urbanization process are consuming these water sources in the world. Conflicts in many parts of the world are also threatening to access to safe water. All these factors force children to use unsafe water and put them at risk of deadly diseases such as cholera and diarrhea. Many children are in areas affected by drought that have to spend many hours every day to get water, making them miss the opportunity to go to school.
The United Nations has warned that ¼ of children around the world will live in areas with limited water resources by 2040 due to the effects of climate change. Over the next two decades, 600 million children will live in areas subjected to persistent water stress, with great competition for existing water supplies. Every day, 800 children die because of diseases related to the use of polluted water, personal hygiene and bad sanitation.
In the last 10 years, Coca-Cola worked with the Government of Vietnam and non-governmental organizations with many programs to provide and upgrade clean water for the community up to 4 million USD. From 2008, Coca-Cola Vietnam has collaborate with CEFACOM in supplying safe water and improve conditions for students and community for whole 3 areas are Hanoi, Danang and Ho Chi Minh City.
Since 2008, there have been more than 53,566 people in 3 locations of which 22,812 teachers and students, 28,006 people are low income and get benefits from the Clean Water program for community supported by Coca-Cola. From October 2017, the focus of the program is being focused on children from 12 years old.
In 2017, CEFACOM, Family Health Center and the development of the Vietnamese CFC community has received funding from Coca-Cola Vietnam coordinating to install 2 drinking water systems at the tents at Lien Bat and Truong Thinh Secondary Schools in Hanoi.
In 2018, CFC implemented the project at 4 Schools Secondary School in Hanoi and Danang. Moreover, with the assistance of Coca-Cola Vietnam, not only did they install the system but also implemented an education program for students and citizens. In 2018, 6,999 people gained benefit directly and 12,494 people indirectly from project. Indirect beneficiaries are people living around the school has installed the system and the people come to get clean water for living.
